iPAD not working, what are my rights?

Hi all, I bought my daughter an iPad mini back in August 4th 2015, I can't find the reciept but have spoken to Currys and they found me on the system.

Now a couple of weeks back it suddenly out of the blue decided to stop working. I took it to a local Apple approved repairer, they informed me it wouldn't be repaired as it was uneconomical to do so, this shocked me as it is barely 2 years old. They did then say that I had consumer rights and that as it was under 6 years old I should be able to go back to Currys and get it sorted by them.

My question is what info do i need to know to go back to them with as I don't want to just get palmed off with sorry Sir but we can't help!!

Any guidance would be gratefully received :T:T

You would have to get an independant report showing it was an inherent issue due to manufacuring or poor parts.

They would probably then refund the cost of the report + 40-50% of the price paid.

Would your 'local Apple approved repairer' be able to write a report stating that the ipad is inherently faulty?

If so, take that report to Currys with the faulty device and they should offer a remedy. If a repair is not possible, that remedy could be a replacement or a refund. If a refund is decided upon, the amount can be reduced to take account of the two year's use you have had.

I went to an apple approved repairer but they didn't give me any written report, perhaps i should revisit and ask them to do a written one!

I would be happy with any sort of solution which involved getting my daughters iPAD working again.

Thank you for your help! :T

If it's really uneconomic to repair then I doubt if you'll ever see it working again. I think you should be preparing to purchase a replacement.

Try calling the general currys number 0344 561 1234 and say that you're looking for redress under your consumer rights and that you've already been into the Apple store/ Apple authorised repair centre, that have said XYZ fault.

They might accept this information without written report and offer a figure, or they will ask for a written report stating this.

You'll have to call eventually so might as well get do it now and maybe save yourself the hassle of getting a written report stating that it is inherently faulty.

Try calling the general currys number 0344 561 1234

Is that number covered by calling plans or is it a "premium"' number? Say No suggests 0800 5878787 as an alternative.

All numbers that start with 03 are charged at the same rate as standard landline numbers that start with '01' or '02'. If your phone tariff offers inclusive calls to landlines, calls to 0344 numbers will also be included in the same way.
