Strange request from removal man

Really you need to get the quotes together ... and choose your "order of preference" with each of them.
Once you've got a date, then you can phone round to check if they've got that date available.
Once you're VERY close to exchange, you can phone and get pencilled in.
Once you've exchanged, you phone to confirm.
If at any point your preferred service is fully booked, that's life .... they can't wait for you ....
You just need to have had the quotes in and have your list ready so you can move onto the next one to try to book a van.0 -
Avoid a Friday completion and you'll have far better chance of booking the company you want.
Its a myth that Fridays are busier ( maybe because everyone thinks fridays will be busy lol )
As an aside we never charge a deposit , we will book provisionally and our terms and condtions give a sliding scale of cancellation costs we could charge if a confirmed move is cancelled with short notice . However we always work with the customer and can normally move to a new date , cant remember the last time we charged a cancellation tbh.
No body seems to have much notice on confirmed dates any more its very much last minute . Yesterday I had to change a date for a customer who had been expecting to move friday tol a possible date date week , and then I had a call from someone asking if we could move them friday , but they cant confirm until today !!
Its all fun and games hereVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

Actually, some people still believe you can only move on a Friday! We've had posts on here before asking about it, or are surprised when someone suggests they move on another day...
Perhaps it's different in different areas...2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I had a strange request from a removal man once - told him where to sling his hook - saucy boy.0

We had a similar problem when we moved - I booked the date provisionally about 3 weeks prior, then they kept nagging us to confirm because they had other people who wanted the date too. Eventually my husband confirmed it with them before we had even exchanged and luckily we managed to exchange the same week and complete on the original date.0

Its a myth that Fridays are busier ( maybe because everyone thinks fridays will be busy lol )Not what other removal companies have told me - and most people I know have moved on a Friday. My last move was very last minute and I had to avoid Fridays to get a booking.
Here's the results of a survey asking people which day of the week they moved on:
So 41% of those surveyed moved on Friday.
Here's the associated article: http://hoa.org.uk/advice/guides-for-homeowners/i-am-buying/what-is-the-best-day-to-move-house/
The main reason for choosing Friday is because you can then spend the weekend unpacking.
The main reason not to choose Friday is in case there are problems - and solicitors, banks etc will be closed until Monday.0
