Natwest PPI claim

I've just received a reply to my ppi claim from Natwest. They say they can't consider my complaint as I only had 3 years to submit the claim. I had no idea banks could put their own time limits on claims?

There is no specific rule for banks. Just the general timebar rules that apply to all firms regardless of subject.

It is to prevent try-it-on or fraudulent complaints being made many years down the road when the firm may have destroyed data and not be in a position to defend itself.

There has to be a trigger to start the 3 year timebar clock though. In the case of PPI, that is usually a CCL (client care letter) being sent out which says you had PPI and may have been missold (and give some examples). It invites your to complain if you wish. You get three years from that point to raise your complaint or you become barred from future complaint.
