Hi
I bought a Chest of Drawers on Ebay. But the seller accidentally sent two. I told them about the second one and the seller wants it returned. She is expecting me to stay in all day, to wait for the courier to come to collect it or to take it with me to work or leave it with someone else (which is not possible). I will be really inconvenienced by this. I have asked for another solution but she is adamant about this. I was looking for some advice on this. What should i do?
This the first email she sent me
"Could you kindly advise of a working day Monday to Friday we can book a collection for? This needs to be a day someone can be at the property all day as the driver is not time specific. Please give us two full working days’ notice to be sure to book the courier in time. In the meantime could you kindly prepare for collection as below - Please ensure to remove all traces of your address including the original courier label and put our address on a new label as below : Quoting your return reference number. It is your responsibility to make sure that someone will be at your house when the collection takes place as Yodel will require a signature. The courier should give a receipt with a 16 digits collection tracking number begins with JD000… Once the item has been collected please contact us with the collection tracking number."
Thanks

To be fair she's not being unreasonable, how do you expect it to be collected if you don't want to make arrangements for that to happen? There's nothing to say that you would have to wait all day, you could be lucky and your collection is early in the day, although you could be unlucky and it's not until say 5pm. Very few courier still do collections after that time.
If a weekday is no good request a Saturday collection, she may have to use a more expensive courier but the service is available. Alternatively do one of the things she already suggested, take it to work, leave it with a friend, relative or neighbour who are home all day or have a friend, relative or neighbour wait at your house for the collection.
Is there any reason why you accepted both? If you knew you only ordered one and they sent two why did you not just refuse delivery of the second? It would have been sent straight back to the seller without you needing to deal with any of this.0 -
The items came with two separate couriers.0

If you work Monday to Friday, then take a day unpaid leave, and tell the company to pay your lost wages for the day off.
Or tell them to use a courier with a two or four hour collection slot.
You are not being unreasonable refusing to stay in for an entire day!
(Although I am also unsure why you accepted the second one when it arrived...)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
So you recieved one then separately got another one some time later? In that case Fosterdog's post becomes even more prevalent why did you not just reject the second one?The items came with two separate couriers.
Ultimately if it's the sellers error then you should not be penalised for the return, if a weekday is no good the seller will have to bite the bullet and pay for the Saturday collection.0 -
My brother in law opened the door the second time around. I will ask her if she is willing to pay for a Saturday Collection.0

I wouldn't advise that unless the company specifically tell you to.
OP is under a duty to take reasonable care of the goods and make them available for collection (at the expense of the company & the OP's convenience).
In other words, if OP left it outside and it was stolen or damaged, OP could end up liable. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
