What does the gist of the letter say ?

So do you recognise the mobile phone account they are talking about ? It says it was taken out in 2011 and last payment was 2012. Is it your account?
Sourcrates I am not ideally placed to advise the links if you copy them and remove the spaces take you to a letter which says the debt is a mobile phone bill and how it is broken down.£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120 -
The letter also says your account is on hold whilst they get statements back from the original creditor so would wait and see what they come up with but as you have asked on the full and final settlement thread about getting a discount I assume you recognise the debt and would be better to set up some kind of payment plan with Lowell to get it paid.
You may find they will offer you a discount (but probably will want at least 80% of the balance) - you can then pay this over installments usually£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120 -
Thanks for the advice. I think I recognise the number but I can't be sure and none of the information matches what I have in my records. Should this actually be proven to be mine, is the early termination fee not extortionate for the length of contract and how long I was in to it? I have asked the question on the F & F thread as a contingency because I do want to clear any ancient debts I have. I'm committed to doing so but I feel the charges are quite ludicrous.0

Seems like you owe money for a mobile phone contract. What sort of phone did you have to incur a £2,010 early termination fee?
The £2,700 fees due on page 1 refer to Orange but page 2 refers to a current balance of £265 with TalkTalk?0 -
I know about the Talk Talk one and I'm happy to settle with them for that, my parents will be helping me clear these and I'm very grateful for that. I don't even remember what phone it could be, I've been with three for 5 years you see. The letters say I was 9 months in to a 24 month contract so even if the phone was say £60 per month, it doesn't even nearly add up to £2000 early termination. My understanding is that early termination is paying off the rest of the contract at the monthly cost as an accumulative figure though please correct me if I'm wrong,0

Was the mobile number and account mentioned in the letter yours?
If so, you are liable and as stated, mobile contracts are not CCA regulated so that letter was enough to prove the debt exists, so long as it was yours.
If it was, the first thing I would do is query the balance. What was the contract for, monthly? I don't think that you should have a termination fee of £2,000 unless if you had multiple phones on a very high cost contract.
If it wasn't your phone account, send a response back saying so.

I would like to query the balance, my fear is how aggressive they are and what they are going to demand. I'm really committed to clearing any old debts, I have been offered the help and finance to do so (my parents). They are saying the contract was monthly but I genuinely can't remember anything about this which is why I sent the prove it letter. I want to nip this in he bud before it becomes something to be genuinely afraid of, I don't want this hanging over my head. The costs simply don't add up for me, I've calculated it as best as I can, it just doesn't make sense and I don't know what to do next.0 -
If you didn't officially cancel the contract and just didn't pay there is probably late fees and VAT on the charges. Ideally you need to see what statements they send you and see if any of that tallies and gives you a clearer picture.
They have put your account on hold for 30days - this means they won't chase you for this period. Like any debt collector if you make attempts to pay they won't chase as often as if you just ignore them.
I actually don't mind dealing with Lowell they have pretty much left me alone once plans were in place and they get their money regularly and I can do it all online without ever speaking to them - plus my accepted discount shows on my account and they are letting me pay in installments (some if you have a discount applied will want money within a set period)£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120
