BT - Moved house charged twice.

Hi. I renewed with Bt for 18 months in june this year. We then moved house at the start of this month. I gave them 3 days notice of move. They asked if we wanted a new number - i said yes and what they've done is cancel our old contract that was about two months in and started us up again - or that is what I think they've done as I've been charged for two phone lines in my bill basically one month for the new one and the requisit 30 day notice period for the old one.

Surely that can't be right - I wouldn't have changed my number had I know it would cancel the contract.

I'll be phoning them tomorrow but do I have a case?

Ask them why. It might be that they charge a month up front and then refund the old line.

Seems right - your old contract dies on cessation, it is not carried forward. So will be paying the notice period on the old line, plus the forward rental on the new line, that will be correct, AND you'll have a new minimum period of service going forward
