EON Energy causing negativity on my credit report
Back in March 2015 I issued EON with final readings as I was moving home, as a result, terminating my contract with them.
After issueing the final readings over the phone, the customer service representative advised that I was in credit, resulting in EON owing me money. They advised for me to leave the direct debit in place for around a week in order to allow for the refund to be issued. With the stress of moving house, I forgot to cancel the direct debit until August 20-5. Upon checking my bank statements during September 2015, I noticed EON had issued me with the refund, but then went on to continue taking payments!
Upon contacting them in September 20/5, they advised that there had been a mistake made on their behalf, whereby I was in fact in debt with them, and not in credit upon receiving the final readings. They advised that they had opened new accounts in my name to retrieve the error that they had made, they also advised that there had been a negative impact on my credit rating due to their mistake! At the time they advised that the erronus negative credit would be removed from my record. They advised that they would be sending out a letter of apology, which I never received.
Upon checking on Equifax today, there is still the missed payments showing for EON!!
Can anybody advise what would be the best course of action to take in order to get this error removed once and for all??
Kind regards,
Mr J

Hello Mr J and sorry we've caused this problem.
Euphoria1z is right. This needs to go down our complaints route. From what you say, I suspect this was the subject of a complaint when you first raised it back in 2015. As we didn't do what we said, this complaint needs to be re-opened by the area who originally dealt with it. There'll be notes on the account detailing what was done at the time.
Please speak to us (contact details are on our website in the 'contact us' section) and we'll start the ball rolling. If you're not happy with the resolution we offer, you can go to our Reviewers who'll take a second look. Should you remain unhappy, we'll let you have a Final Resolution Offer letter you can use to refer the case to the Energy Ombudsman. There's more information about how we look after complaints on our website.
Sorry we didn't do as we said two years ago Mr J and hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Spot on Euphoria1z. As above, this definitely needs to go down our complaints path.
