I am of to Poland soon and want to ensure I have read the guidance correctly
Am I allowed to purchase 800 cigarettes in Poland without falling foul of customs
OR
Am I meant to buy 400 in outward Duty Free shop and 400 more in inward Duty Free Shop

As Poland is part of the EU I think you can take back as much as you want but customs may ask questions if you have a large amount (over 3200 has been mentioned).0

The guidance was updated a few years ago from 3200, which represented approx 6 months consumption for someone who smoke 20 a day, to 800 however the key word in the above statement is "guidance"
As someone has already said poland is eu and therefore you can, in theory, have as many cigs as you want assuming they are for your own personal consumption or are to be given as gifts, not for payments in kind or money.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

you cannot purchase "duty free" for travel within the EU, you would need to be on a flight departing to outside the EU to be able to purchase duty free cigarettes (both legs) - some airports sell cigarettes at 2 different rates, one for leaving EU (cheap price, duty free), one for travel within the EU (UK shop prices, not duty free)
What you can take is Duty paid cigarettes. Cigarettes will be cheaper in Poland than in the UK but there will be few UK brands available0 -
