Hi I have been informed today that my Financial ombudsman that you have to contact them within 6 months of getting your refusal reply from the lender/credit card in question. Is this correct?

Yes the rules are very simple, 6 months from rejection to refer to FOS or the case is closed and time barred except in exceptional circumstances where you could provide a valid reason why you couldn't do it for the entire time period e.g. being in a coma

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Correct. You are told this when you initially make your complaint (the acknowledgement letter contains that info. The complaint rejection also tells you it as well.

  • I thought this must be a new ruling as this did not occur when I made a previously claim which I won. I wondered if the rules had changed recently.

No. A few tweaks to the process but no change to the 6-month rule or the disclosure for nearly 20 years.
