Fisrt post regarding PPI

With the news today that the deadline for PPI reclamation being set. I figured it was about time I finally made serious enquires about getting something sorted. I have read through some of the threads etc and they have been very helpful although I am still a little confused by it all so hopefully someone here can help point me in the right direction.
I had a welcome finance loan and an egg card around 2007/2008. I was very silly boy in my younger days back when credit was being handed out left right and center, but that's neither here nor there.
Mt problem is I have changed banks a few times since then and also I was moving around a bit at that time I was just out of uni and going where the rent was cheapest.
My problem is that I no longer have details of either of these accounts, and both these companies have since folded. Id like to make a claim for PPI but have no idea how to go about it without the details. I did have a look at the FCS website but when I tried to submit a claim online it told me to ring them directly, and id like to do that with a little info on hand.
so really I have two questions,
1. How can I find out what those account details were? (I know what addresses they were registered to and rough dates, I have checked my credit score here and they are not showing on the report)
2. What is the best way to go about making a claim?

I'm sure this a question that's been asked a million times, so links to any useful threads would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Michael

    1. Unless you or the Bank has kept records of this finance, the account details will not be retrievable, I'm afraid. Banks typically dispose of such records after six years of account inactivity.

But start by asking the Bank directly if they still have records of you, it's the only way to be sure.

    2. There is a wealth of information available on the main MSE website, so I don't propose to go into any discussion of the processes here. However, if (having read the MSE tutorials)you still have specific questions then by all means ask here.
  • Many thanks, I was hoping there would have been a database somewhere, but hey ho, time to get some printer ink, thanks for the answer :)
