Hi
i am in Luzern in Switerland and am staying at the Marriott Hotel with my partner. Its a big brand posh hotel and expensive but i have had a problem with my room:
- Room is so small. Expedia says it should be 19sqm, but i made the manager measure it and its 17sqm. Doesnt sound like much but trust me it is - 15% difference.
- There is eaves in the top floor room i am in making it even more claustrophobic.
- We have to put our luggage near the front of the door due to lack of space (room is very narrow).
I complained about all the above issues and all they offered was 2 free breakfasts which is pathetic.
How do we get compensation for this? clearly it is misselling right (given the room size)? I would like full compensation for this. Also shouldn't all rooms be measured to get the actual size and have all previous guests given their money back / compensated if they were mis sold the room based on size?
thanks

Have you asked the hotel if you can be moved to a larger room? I suspect the 19 sqm is an indication of a typical size rather than an absolute or minimum floor area. No doubt Expedia and/or Marriott have disclaimers in their t&cs.
I'd get out and enjoy Switzerland - don't let worrying about the size of your room spoil your holiday.0 -

Presume this is the Renaissance Hotel? Hotel web site says standard rooms are 19-22 sqm. Single rooms (but have a queen size bed, so could sleep 2) are smaller. So what room type did book?

Who's to say the manager measured it correctly?0

That would be too small a room for me anyway!travelover0

You're on holiday in Switzerland and complaining about a few feet of space in the room, for goodness sake get out and enjoy your holiday and stop spending time on an internet forum trying to get compensation. Need to sort your priorities I think.0

If rooms are square 17m2 is 4.12m across, 19m2 is 4.36m. This is a trivial difference of 24cm about 10 inches.
I hope that the OP's silence on this thread means that they are taking our advice to enjoy their holiday!0
