Solicitor Options

Hi guys

We have been given a few quotes when searching for Solicitors in our area (Conveyancing)

Two in our home town have stated £2550 and the other £2800

The one in Glasgow, which the new build sales advisor recommended, can do the work/fees for £2040

We are now in two minds who to use, do we use our local Solicitor, which we can walk into, or use the Solicitor in Glasgow and most, if not everything, will be over telephone/Email

Any advise would be helpful everyone :)

I'd always pick a local one I can walk into/drop things off/collect things.

When you say 'recommended', do you mean they're associated or linked to the developer? I'd not touch with a bargepole if so. How can they have your best interests at heart if they work for the developer? You need a totally independent solicitor who is on your side.

  • I'd go for one you have found yourself, not developer recommended one.

Also, Look at the breakdowns of costs and make sure you're comparing like with like eg the lbtt and registration costs are the same no matter where you go, it's the legal fees you want to compare, and any extras which one might have included but not the other.

The Solicitors in Glasgow have no connection to the build

It's Mcvay and Murricane who they have advised

Just looked at reviews and they seem pretty good

We have sourced quotes from Thorntons and Connelly Yeoman

Are you in Scotland? So your 'local ones' are in Scotland? If not, remember the Scottish system is different so you need a solcitor familiar with that system.

having said that, a local one you can visit is preferable especially if there's a problem you want to discuss face to face.

If getting a mortage, check they are on your lender's panel.
