Door Handle Doesn't Pull Right In

Recently changed door handles and now the new one doesn't pull the little metal bit all the way in so you have to give the door quite a pull to open it.

Is there something in the handle I can do to make it open the door smoothly?

Internal door? Some pictures would be useful but I suspect it's a case of tweaking the fixing to make it a better fit. Did you change the mechanism or just the handle on the spindle? If the former, it sounds as if the mechanism needs seating a tiny bit deeper into the door. If that's the case, remove it, make the hole a little deeper so the mechanism sits further into the door.

    Hmm.
I changed the handle and the metal rod that fits through the door.

If it's a case of drilling a new hole and re-seating the handle, I'll just swap it back. All the handles are odd in our house anyway!

Either the handle is not going down enough before hitting its internal stop or the spindle is too small for the hole and the slack is stopping the mechanism from pulling fully in.

    Investigated further.
The handle doesn't turn as much as the old handle so I guess that's the internal stop?

I guess no real way to remidy it?

don't know what the keeper is
The metal bit on the frame that the "little metal bit" latches into :)

ff1956 was suggesting that you set it further into the frame so the little metal bit clears it (or adjust it with a hammer . . .)

    other options:
file a bit off the internal stop(s) - maybe, if possible.
file a bit off the bolt

take it an internal door . spindle is slack or possible the latch is spring loaded and slack . as fire fox says takr ie deeper into the frame not the door if it works a bit but not all when youre trying to open it .

ohhh - I see what you mean :P

Take the keeper into the frame a little deeper, rather than mess about with the door.

    I'm so stupid!

    Thank you!

It's called the strike plate... definitely play about with the position of that rather than the latch in the door. Much easier and cleaner.
