Post Office/Bank of Ireland card - don't go there

Applied for Post Office card after getting 90% chance on their eligability and I wanted fee free for abroad

Sent in verified documents by my bank like they asked.

4 weeks in total for a decision.. declined today by underwriters. It appears they make you jump through hoops - and that's before credit checking you.

Bank of Ireland.. an absolute nightmare

Just applied for Halifax Clarity instead.. accepted with £3k and card on its way, this will suit me down to the ground for my holiday spending :j

My advice.. do not bother with Post Office or AA credit cards. I should of listened to all the complaints about them on this forum. Much better options out there, it's 2017 and not worth the hassle.

  • Sorry to hear your predicament, however, I have been a Post Office (BOI) credit card holder for over two years and, other than no contactless feature, have had no issues with the application process or its use.

    Better luck elsewhere.
  • My experience has also been good with them,

I've had a Bank of Ireland Gold Card for at least 10 years with no issues. Maybe it's the Post Office element that's the problem?
I need to think of something new here...

They are a joke - you've been let off lightly.

What element of the business upset you?
  • This is like any public forum - one person slates the service one or two others join in but the tens of thousands of satisfied customers don't post.

Must admit the posts about their ID criteria has put me off applying for their card.

Read about this a lot recently, is this something that has been adopted by them within the last couple of years? I got one about 3 years ago and didn't have to provide any more info than any other CC provider.
  • I had a similar experience to the original poster.

Applied recently on the basis of a high probability on the eligibility score. I did not have to jump though hoops thankfully, but instead got a decline letter by post after a few days.

Their application process and card admin was awful, their internet banking was like a ZX Spectrum etc etc

I'm not upset but wouldn't touch any BOI products with a barge-pole.

I got a Post Office card, without needing to send documents in 2-3 years ago.

Also had 2 or 3 repeat 18 month, balance transfer offers from them after the initial 0% purchase period ran out.

I find the app, quick and easy also, although it is a bit limited and you do have to enter card details, each time you want to make an additional payment.
