Still getting lots of old £1 coins
Comments
-
Personally its been a long time since i was given old style pounds in change .0

Just take them to the bank after 1st October who will change. After this day they are no longer legal tender so you should not be getting them back in change.
First world problem, really....0 -
Not sure what the problem is really? If you don't want to specifically ask for newer coins or the shop doesn't have them to give then you can still put them in your piggy bank and do a single trip to the bank to change them after the end date.0

We changed 5 old pound coins for new ones at the bank last week. The teller did comment that they were still legal but did change them.0
-
Why on earth change them at the bank when there's over a month left?
Still getting them in my change at the moment.0 -
Maybe that's because you're a 6'5" 250lb ex-military policeman - what about us mere mortals?I would ask them to give you a new pound coin not an old one in your change. I am sure most people will be happy to oblige.
Or failing that - just spend the damn things next day and put away a fiver every other day.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Exactly. Our local community pool is hoarding old £1 coins as the lockers take a £1 coin and they offer to swop your new £1 for an old one so you can use the locker. About 25% of the people forget to swop back afterwards so they need reserves.tberry6686 wrote: »I know of 5 businesses that are hoarding the old coins because they have old vending machines that will not accept the new ones without upgrades costing more than the machines are worth.
I wonder if that is why the old ones aren't coming back very quickly
The cost of new lock mech's in 350 lockers was huge, apparently, hence this solution0 -
Why did you...if you dont mind me asking
We wanted to give them to my grandson to put away in his piggy bank and 5 coins mean much more to a 5 year old than a £5 note.
We only had old ones and were in the the bank anyway so took the chance to change them.
Giving him old ones would have meant having to empty the piggy bank at a later date to retrieve them and change them.0 -

Are these lockers you put the £1 in and it falls into the back of the door?
