Good morning all
New to this and after some advice. I purchased an Amazon Fire HD from Argos and today had a proper look at it. On the lock screen you get what Amazon has called subscription adverts and from the good internet i have found in order to have them removed i am going to have to pay Amazon £10 which is in addition to what I have already paid Argos i have looked in the argo s catalogue and online and at no point does it state this is on the fire and addition charges would apply. I have contacted Argos who are completely uninterested about it all. Where if anything do i stand of can do as feel really this should have been included within the advert.

Are these the adverts that appear on the sleep screen? If so they're not affecting your use of the item, the tablet is as described.
Pay to have them removed or live with it. Argos have done nothing wrong.0 -
I don't know whether this might be useful information, but Amazon sell the Fires in two different versions at two different prices - one with no adverts, and the same with adverts but £10 less.
Argos choose to only sell the versions with subscription ads. To them it's simply a product, and descriptions of the products they sell are always limited in length.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

What's the problem? The adverts are just pictures on the lock screen - you just type in your PIN and the tablet goes straight to the home screen. You don't have to watch a video ad or interact with it in any way - just ignore it as they are no more bothersome than having a random picture on the lock screen. Certainly not worth spending money to do away with the adverts in my view.0

In fairness to the OP, the Argos online advert for the Amazon Fire HD makes no mention of it being supported by advertising (assuming I am looking at the correct tablet): http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7074493
Like the OP, I would feel aggrieved that this quite important fact has not been made clear. How else can a purchaser make an informed decision? I really do think Argos should make this clearer. And yes, just like the OP, the adverts would bug me - each to their own.0 -
Amazon removed the ads. for free for me when I asked them.
Here's how someone else had it done for free:-

True, but how is this different than buying a Lenovo Laptop from Currys or Argos and having pre-installed shortcuts to websites that Lenovo get paid for, or having the default web search changed to a affiliate link.
It is impossible to make every single feature and specification available to users. If Argos sold two different versions, one with special offers and one without then I'd say yes the information given should be clearer. But as this special offer screen is only there when unlocking, it is no more intrusive than Windows 10 unlock screen that contain ads. And Argos did provide the full model number, which a basic google search tells the user it has special offers on.
Good that users can remove the ads with 5 minutes of effort, but fundamentally the inclusion of the advert lock screen has no real affect on the device or usability. But would be nice for Argos to mention to make things clearer for the customer.0 -

I can't think of any computer or tablet that is not sold full of branded bloatware. This is no different.0 -
I bought a Kindle Paperwhite at a lower price because it has ads on the lock screen. I ignore them. Simple. It was obvious when i was looking at prices that this was why the prices for the same product were different.0

As you say Argos makes no mention of what is displayed on the screen when in sleep mode. Why not assume it will be advertising given the heavily discounted price? Compare similarly specified items.
Perhaps Argos are at fault for not telling you how to remove the unintrusive adverts, which disappear anyway whilst unlocking the screen.0 -
OP, as another poster said, although they say they charge a £10 fee to remove the adverts, they did it for free when I contacted them.0
