Please can some one in a position to be a BT customer tell me is their 1572 crap an opt in or opt out service?
I being poor have to use skype, so am increasingly meeting this turd
One of my friends who is clever and rich enough to have BT insists that he did not sign up to it, but it took three attempts to get a connection and not the 1572 crap

So I'm assuming:
- Friend has BT and has somehow signed up to 1572 caller reject.
- OP is using Skype which either gives out a number that 1572 is catching and diverting to voicemail OR Skype is withholding the number which is preventing the call from completing.
- The OP is annoyed about this.
It appears to be an opt-in service:

If you have not set up caller ID on Skype, and your friend has set BT caller protect up to block witheld numbers this is exactly what you will get.

If you have set up caller ID then maybe your "friend" has put you on his blacklist.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I use skype with out a number as per my rightful choice. Many thanks for each of the replies.
I don't seem to get the 1572 attitude with company phone numbers.0 -

The problem is nothing to do with BT, it is just that your friend chooses to block all calls from unknown numbers, and you choose to be an anonymous caller. The 2 things are incomparable.
It's not reasonable to make your friend to unblock his phone, and thus receive unsolicited callers just so you can get through to him, but it costs you nothing to remove you anonymity .0 -

This shows that blocking calls based on CLI or on lack of CLI is just daft. Incoming calls from police, hospitals and other public services often display no number. Those are usually calls that you would want to receive.
The 'challenge' approach as implemented by trueCall devices is more robust while still giving genuine callers a chance to get through. This functionality is also available to be deployed on the telephone network as demonstrated by the Sky Shield system that appears to work in much the same way.
BT has gone for an inferior system with significant limitations.0
