Outside paint oil VS water based for longtivty ?which brand can anyone help please?

Hi guys,

I need to paint some wood outside and want it to last a long long time.

What should I be buying oil based, water based or other? What would you recommend please?

    You can buy cheap one coat stuff, but you'll be doing it every year, or pay a bit extra.

    I used the dulux trade weathershield oil-based stuff on my soffits and fascias. I was pretty pleased with the results.

    Scaffolding job, so don't want to be doing it too often.

    Oil based every time. I have fencing and gates coated with Sadolin Classic which is exposed to the sun and rain. A dreadful position facing south that would teat the ability of any fence treatment quality. Regardless, the Sadolin has coped with 30 years without needing any recoating.

    Neighbours have fascias and barge boards with a minimal coating of the same product and, depending on which direction it faces, much has lasted 30 years without being touched.

    Sadolin Classic is also a cheap stain. There are better ones out there - it depends what you require in terms of finish, colours, price and so on.
