Yes it does, I've just installed Windows 10 on an old Lenovo machine and just used the Windows 7 COA numbers and it activated fine

    Ok, Ed.
Still not necessarily a completely duff or unrecoverable disk. Could still be the laptop interface unless of course you tried the hd in another pc? Download and run Seagate's disk testing software?
Useful info on the process at http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/170511en?language=en_US&key=ka030000000tqC1AAI&kb=n&wwwlocale=en-gb
I would be tempted to try the tests using a known working interface/cable in mother machine. Even though you can boot from cd that does not mean there is nothing amiss with the hard drive interface. Does the bios recognise the hard drive at all?

And I've done dozens over the last several months. They stopped you being able to do it with the first Build 1607 updated ISO but re-enabled the ability to do it with the Creators Update ISO. Ultimately MS want everyone on Windows 10.

Have made it even easier for you with new links

Don't know anything about a MEGA thingy. It should have just downloaded via your Browser.
  • Thank you; will try installing in due course when I get a moment and possibly another hard drive.
