Best torch I have found for the money. Really powerful and lasts for hours on one charge.0 -
Another vote for the P7, had one for several years and never had a problem, good bit of kit.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Thanks for the recommendations. Overall it sounds like the P7 is a good though not cheap option. I put the Amazon i/d into camelcamelcamel and it says
So as ukjoel said, the cheapest was about £24 earlier this year. I've set up price alarms on ccc for the P7 and T7 when they go below £30 and might jump in then.
Meantime I'm going to get a Nitecore tube as suggested since that will be useful to have as well as a bigger torch. Great info all :T0 -
And another. I bought one for work (night security) as the Maglites we had provided were heavy and had a poor beam pattern. I paid £20 for a P7 on eBay and it's one of the best purchases I have ever made. It has been dropped, run over, soaked and generally knocked about and it just keeps going. Massively powerful beam, zoomable lens, reasonable battery life, and fits easily in a pocket. The on/off button failed, I contacted the UK importers and they sent me a new one FOC, although I provided no proof of purchase, and must have had the torch over two years when it happened. I have had my name engraved on the barrel as colleagues love to 'borrow' it. I wouldn't be without it: the 200m beam saves me a lot of walking
I have a P7 for the same use as you, well worth the money, also a Feit 1000 lumens that is great for big areas but a bit big for a glove box.:D0 -
Having had a root about on the LED Lenser site, I'm now leaning towards the L7 due to:
it's lighter
it's made of polycarbonate
it is simple on-off rather than several light levels that you have to cycle through
it has twist focusing rather than the sliding sleeve version on P7
it's about £20
Not nearly as bright as P7 but no doubt bright enough. Also no pouch but can probably buy a decent aftermarket one if needed.

*the P7 is hardly heavy
*my P7 has full and half brightness settings. I never use the half setting
*the sliding zoom on the P7 is brilliant as you can do it one-handed with your thumb
*the price of the P7 seems to vary widely - I have seen them for £20 and also over twice that
*the P7 is fairly bright, but having owned one I wouldn't want one that was less bright. The long reach of the beam when focused narrow is excellent, and translates into a larger area of brightness when it is focused wide. That means a long range when looking for distant objects and a useful spread when using the torch to illuminate say a room.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
