Is it worth selling an old kitchen?

Options
I am really struggling to make a decision on this one.....hoping you lot can help!

We are replacing our kitchen incl moving oven location etc and our existing kitchen won't easily fit into the new space. There's nothing wrong with the kitchen and it would include working dishwasher and fridge. The worktop is a lovely black granite, which I have been told would be worth ££s.

Kitchens on eBay don't really seem to fetch much. Our builders have said that it takes a lot more time to remove a kitchen and make sure the units are in a sellable condition. Should I just put it on a selling site and say the buyer needs to remove it?

I have thought about reusing the granite in the utility room, but it sounds like it's a lot of cost and hassle getting it cut.

What to do with it? Could really do with making a few ££s from it to help the whole project along.
I would include a photo if I could work out how to add it!

Your builder is correct. We an remove a whole kitchen in about 2 hours. For us to dismantle it to be resold is a days works for two men. That has already cost you IRO £300- £400. That is probably more than you can get for a second hand kitchen on ebay. The granite would need to be professionally cut to refit elsewhere.

TBH, its more cost effective to scrap it.

Buyers from Ebay and the like will dismantle themselves and pay you. No reason not to do it.

Agree with Silvercar, we've done it a few times and it's been financially beneficial. My husband helps them dismantle it. The kitchens we've sold don't sound as nice as yours!

    Gumtree, not eBay.

  • Put it on eBay/gumtree saying buyer has to remove. Give timescales. If it doesn't get taken and gets smashed up, it's a pity but you don't lose anything by trying!

Quite a few pop up n my local Facebook buy & sell pages with 'buyer to remove'.
  • Even if you remove it and only half the units are salvageable, they'll still go for a few quid to someone who wants them for their shed. Base units often get cut about for pipes etc but wall units are usually removable in good intact condition.

You may even get someone who wants additions or replacements which match their kitchen!

Dishwasher and Fridge you may get £50 each for - more if they're fairly new and a premium brand.

  • My SIL sold the somewhat manky 1980s wooden kitchen that came with her flat to a couple on Gumtree for £200 - the buyers carefully removed and carried it down 3 flights of stairs. The appliances went separately for £30 - £50 each, also via Gumtree. I'd say it's definitely worth a try to sell yours.
