Did you do your own conveyancing?
If not, what advice has your conveyancer given you?
Small Claims Courts don't award legal costs, so the other side can wrack up up a huge legal bill using the most expensive lawyers, but will never get it back from you whether they win or lose.
Hard to tell you where to go for legal advice without knowing the bassis of the claim, but free....? :
* CAB - don't expect too much
* home insurance legal costs add-on (NOT the 'help-lines, they are useless)
* union?
* employment benefit?
* local neighbourood law centre?
* online housing forum? (oh! you've tried that! More details needed!)
Beyond that, you'll have to pay, though many solicitors offfer a free introductory half hour to see if theres a case worth pursuing0 -
Your comments about the appeals process are reassuring, Edddy. Thanks.
I've had no nasty solicitor letter as yet, just a lot of emails where he's Mr Nice Guy and I'm the vilian of the peace. Some of the emails have almost been abusive, but he's pulled back from that.
I like the idea of the solicitors letter, but he's been incredibly volatile, so I imagine that a solicitior's letter would make things worse.0 -
No, G_M, we did not do our own conveyancing. The solicitor who did is happy to continue to advise if we part with a large hourly sum, otherwise his work is done! He bounced us to estate agent, who bounced us to the solicitor.
I'll look at the options you've suggested. Thanks.
I'd love to tell this board what's happened, if only to get it out of my head, but feel like I'm tempting fate. I feel trapped and don't really know where to go or what to do0 -

Just mark his email address as 'spam' and you'll not have to read any more of them!
I suspect the mistake you've been making is replying. Engaging in dialogue is legally a mistake (whatever you write may later come back to bite you), as well as mistake in terms of negotiation.0 -
As above. Block his emails, ignore him. If he wants to pursue it through the courts, he can do so, and you can deal with it then.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I don't really post on here that often, missprice, so wouldn't know who to contact, but I'll take a look to see if I can find someone. Thank you.0

Oh hell, then I've completely cooked my goose! We've emailed regularly. I wasn't going to reply to him, but wanted to get the issue resolve and put it behind me. I thought he did too originally, but it seems he just wants to have a go at me all the time.
I'm trying to stop him taking it to court as I don't think I could face it so feel compelled to answer his emails in order to try and defuse the situation.
I hoped by replying to him, sticking to the point, and trying to take things forward rather than getting caught up in his anger that it would calm things down so that we could negotiate in a reasonable manner. It seems that there is no reasoning with him. All his emails are angry and self righteous.0 -
I can't face the thought of court, macman
If it came to it, I would probably pay up whatever he wants rather than go to court and risk losing and having to pay his costs etc.0 -
