Tablet bought in sale is faulty; equivalent is now full price. My rights?

Okay, so I purchased a Lenovo tablet for my wife from Argos back in January, which was reduced in the sale from £200 to £150, and it has just recently developed a fault, in that it no longer charges when plugged in.
I went to return it today, only to be told that the item has been discontinued, but I was confused by this, because I was sure that I'd seen the same item currently on the Argos website the previous night. (The assistant had obviously used the catalogue number, which was obsolete, rather than the actual model number of the product, which would've turned up the identical item, but now at full price)
I asked if I could get a replacement, and ended up choosing one from a list that was the same price as what I'd paid, but when I got home, it was pointed out to me that it's an inferior model. The direct equivalent (exactly the same model number) is currently £200, which was obviously the original RRP of the one I returned.
Admittedly, I made the decision in haste, since it was 10 minutes before closing, and I'd just finished a 10-hour shift, and I simply didn't want to return home empty-handed.
Should I have been entitled to a like-for-like equivalent replacement, regardless of the price difference? That's what I went in expecting, but got confused because I was acting as the middleman, and just opted for the one at £150. I intend to go back in the morning, but need to be prepared & armed with my rights beforehand.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me. :)

Over 6 months and a cost of tablet I would expect to last no more than 2 years I would say full cost back is generous.

Of course you went for a reaplcement, so there is n oclue as to wheather you would have got the full money back.

They do not have to repalce if it costs them more as in this case. Might have got such if you went to a better shop w ho cares about their reputation but in argos you go the best you could hope for.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to elaborate on the tech details of your rights.

No, you are not entitled to be put into a better situation.

Your legal rights are a repair, replacement, refund outside of the first month, which the retailer can essentially chose without causing you significant inconvenience and done within a reasonable timeframe.
