Please can someone who knows about beams and loft conversions help?

Hi , Please can someone who knows about Ridge beams and loft conversions help? I cannot contact my architect as he is retired and unavailable. Rafter and Purlin Loft. I have structural calculated plans. Ceiling hight is low.
The Ridge beam runs in the same direction as the floor beam. Length is not shown on the plan however it is about 6.1 metres long, the plan states ridge beam 2No 300 x 50 + 6mm plate. I believe these are to upgrade the existing ridge beam and fit to it somehow.
1) Will these be timber or steel and what is a 6mm plate?
2) How will such a long length of timber/steel get into my loft?
3) How will they fit? The plan doesn't show the new beams breaking into the cavity wall.
