I posted a year ago about my g/f stalling clio. Anyway, the problem has become so bad I am taking it back to renault but also to complain.
I still dont know whats wrong with it!
If you have had a stalling Clio or have any cures, its a Y 2001 1.2 16v.
Thanks

I had an issue with my car
It started off being that the car wouldnt start when it was still warm first time
The revs were running very low
It went into the garage and they couldnt diagnose it
It eventually developed until that at every junction etc the engine cut out as the revs got too low
It was eventually diagnosed as a faulty crankshaft sensor
Was quite cheap to fix (£70ish)
But your post is very non specific so it could be anything although a dodgy sensor would be my guess0 -
Try cleaning out the throttle pot.0

thanks, the car does run at 500 revs, and not the normal 700+. the engine management light will come on, and when you slow down the revs will vary finally falling and stalling the car. a replacement loom and ecu will cost over 2k so any cheaper cures could help me here! thanks0

my cousin had the same on his clio,it turned out to be the ecu,he got his done under warranty luckily enough.should have cost £700....work permit granted!0

In higher mileage car's (maybe 100k) it's usually the throttle body needing cleaning, with carb cleaner. The problem is the crankcase emissions gas recirculation. There will be a pipe that goes from the engine to the air filter box. Problem is that this results in muck building up over time on the throttle body. You can in fact remove the pipe and block it off at the air filter box end and a filter thingy on the engine bit which helps prevent this problem. This is a problem with all cars due to emissions legislation.0

renault called to confirm they will replace the wiring loom and ecu if it needs it free of charge. the car is 6 yrs old - cant moan at that0

lol renault has the car all week, replaces a cheap component replaced twice already and when i query it, renault call back to say it isnt fixed. the saga continues0

I know this thread is very old now, but how did you manage to persuade Renault to replace your ECU and wiring loom free of charge?! I'm having a similar problem with my car and have already spend £250 trying to get it fixed to no avail. I've had my clio from new and its now 6 years old so obviously out of warranty.0
