Get Digital Camera repaired or buy a new one?

If anyone could advise I'd very much appreciate it.
The zoom motor on my Canon Ixus 700 digital camera (purchased in July 2005 for about £200 - i think) has broken and I've been quoted at least £60 for the repair job plus a possible extra £40 if something else is broken on it (can't remember what).
Anyways as it could cost £100 was wondering if I'm better off selling broken camera on ebay for someone that's into fixing cameras and buying a new one? i.e what would a two year old Canon be worth now and can I buy an equivilant camera now for £100 (7 megapixels, 3x zoom lens)
Any thoughts welcome, thanks in advance

You could end up laying out £80 and this thing may break again tomorrow.
I'd keep the £80 in your pocket and sell for spares and repairs.
Interestingly, there seem to be an unusual number of spare/repairs completed sales on ebay! Normally I'd expect to see more working cameras than faulty ones on a completed search.
Get a new updated model. (with warranty).
I bought a Samsung S850 a few month back on offer from Argos £99 8MP 5X zoom, pretty good images. I'm sure you'll be able to find a half decent camera for £130 (including the £30 you'll get from ebaying your old camera).
Fuji Finepix S5700 under £112 on Amazon good reviews but probably too bulky for you
Canon A570IS under £130, I wanted one of these as it takes AA rechargeable batteries ( I have lots)
Samsung NV10 £129, ( I have S850 and it very good)0 -

have yo gone back to the shop/supplier to make a claim
ignore the fact that they may say that your out of the one year warranty
the 6 year consumer statute limit applies in this case - you wont get the full amount back that you paid for the camera - but try this first and see where you get0 -
I assume you mean the "Sale of Goods Act"-provided you didnt drop it0

What about claiming on your house insurance ?0

Does amazon new cameras come with a years warranty? Can't seem to see anything on it..
thanks xxxxxxYou may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
I'd check the warranties, and anything the shop might offer first.
But if it's unlikely you'll get anything, I'd probably buy a new one, unless you can find a cheaper repair (try contacting Canon direct from their website).
This is why I always recommend using quality retailers for these type of goods, such as John Lewis, they usually are very helpful in such cases, often after warranties expire.0 -
like most consumer goods these days, repairs are rarely cost effective. labour cost are so high in the uk.
amazon will sell you a similar canon for 123 quid, new. free delivery too.
as been said, sell yours on ebay. i got 20 quid for a broken sony dsc-w35.Get some gorm.0
