PPI refund rejected

Bought my house 15 years ago & was told I wouldn't get the mortgage unless I invested in ppi, so obviously I done as I was advised to get the mortgage! Of course I now know this isn't the truth, I dug out my papers & also noticed you can't claim on ppi of your self employed either (which I was & have been the whole time I've been paying in) therefore this has been a double mis sell! I've contacted the company who have now taken over from the company who advised me & they're accepting no responsibility, they've regected my claim as they say they can't prove I was miss sold! What do I do now? They've been happily taking the money since they took over without reviewing my circumstances! Do I go the ombudsman or do I fight this alone?

Which clause in your PPI policy document leads you to believe you can't claim if you are self employed?
Most mortgage PPI does cover self employment - assuming the insurance you have is PPI of course.
Was the company a broker, they may have required you to purchase an insurance product in order for you to receive free or discounted advice. In any event the broker would not have been regulated in respect of PPI sales at the time you were sold it, so would not even have to consider your complaint and you don't have access to the ombudsman for pre regulation sales.
In terms of what do you do now - you've probably reached a dead end0 -

What evidence have you got to support that allegation?I dug out my papers & also noticed you can't claim on ppi of your self employed
That is very rare on MPPI. Which provide is this?I've contacted the company who have now taken over from the company who advised me & they're accepting no responsibility, they've regected my claim as they say they can't prove I was miss sold!
Did that company sell it to you? (was it a broker or a lender)
Did you supply them your evidence supporting your allegation (almost certainly they will have no evidence to support it)?
Did they cover your point about self employment?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
