Making an offer on show home furniture

Hi,
We are buying a showhome, they have said if there's any of the furniture we we like to keep to make them an offer but we really have no idea how much to offer. My husband thinks we should make a low offer for them to leave everything as they probably don't want to organise removals, risk damage to the property. Any advice greatly appreciated

Just make sure the beds are all full size first - they tend to use narrow/ short beds to make rooms look bigger.

But yes, I agree with your husband, make a low offer, they may counter.

You're effectively buying 2nd hand furniture so think about what you need, how much it's going to cost to get the essentials and then think how much you'd pay for those items 2nd hand.

Also factor in how long you'd keep it for.

FWIW, the developer probably has the choice of selling to you, or selling to an 'ex-show home furniture' company who will turn up with a truck and take it all away. (You can google 'ex-show home furniture' to see some examples.)

So I guess you need to offer the same, or slightly more, than that type of company would. But I've no idea how much that would be!

I'd certainly try asking the developer if you can speak to the person who's responsible for disposing of show home furniture, and ask "How much do you want for the whole lot, so you don't have to get anything cleared?" (and then throw away anything that's broken etc.).

But the developer might not let you speak to that person.

Remember it may not have been perfectly assembled, and you may not get any warranty on it.

I'd ask them for a ballpark figure and then undernoffer to reduce their margin
