Vista and Directx problem

Hiya
Got a game that I am trying to play on my laptop. The game is for xp the laptop is Vista :mad:. I have loaded it & have been advised by game manufacturer that it should run in xp mode, but I can't get passed a Directx error message. It seems not to want load Directx. Does anyone have any suggestions. Can't seem to get games for vista

There's only Halo 2 that's exclusively for Vista. All XP compatible games "should" play on Vista as it's designed to be backwards compatible. Which game is it? There may be a known problem/specific patch you need.

Its Broken Sword THE ANGEL OF DEATH. Do you know if there is a directx on vista issue or am i missing sumtin? Cos it won't download directx x from microsoft either

Only suggestion is to make sure you've got DirectX 10 installed, did you try this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

and looks like there's a patch 1.1 for the game at http://www.broken-sword.com/ under downloads for direct x 10 compatibility. Hope that helps.

No it won't download directx 10 only 9.0c for some reason. The only patches avail are for older systems not vista, but it won't even download them I think I might have a problem downloading anything, could it be the firewall do you think?

All I did was install DX9 on my vista to get all my games working. Only a few would run using the so called backward compatability of DX10.
