Dartford Crossing Toll

In the post today were 2 letters JBW which contained identical notices of enforcement for £190.50. WHAT?
The contravention date was 15/11/2016 (yes, 9 Months ago)
I had received nothing prior to this.

Can this be contested as (A) I didn't even know there was a toll in the first place and (B) I got no reminders, nothing?
What should my immediate plan of action be please?

Regards
Rob

We deal with private parking charges. You could try PePiPoo where you might get more specific advice. You'll need to use an email address to register (but a hotmail one won't work). Make sure you copy all docs you've received (front and back) to ensure you get speedy advice.

    Good luck.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

There's enough signs on the approach on both sides to say it's a toll ?

I'd say there isn't, otherwise I would have seen it and payed...

That link above to the proposed extra signage was dated AFTER my date of contravention, further highlighting the issue of lack of signage

That link was dated 21 November 2014.

You seem to be suggesting that your alleged contravention took place sometime before 30 November 2014, yet in your original post you told us:

Seriously? have you driven that way recently/at all??
Unless you familiar with things like the London congestion chargeetc, the C in a red circle will not mean anything - if much at all, and all the signs say are some nonsense about something called the Dart Charge, and Pay Dart Charge by Midnight tomorrow.

If the signs said Dartfrod Crossing Toll , or even Toll - pay online by midnight tomorrow then people may understand a little better than dressing it up with some semi nonsense like dart charge.
They said the new system was supposed to ease congestion, but its still a nightmare, especially when heading out of kent and.....

Anyway best check on pepipoo, as they specialise more with council /official tickets. If you havent experienced the wonders of the Dartford crossing ( a bridge one way and not one, but two exciting tunnels to chose from northbound) then you may be in for a chance of getting this appealed

PPS - keep this place updated with how things go, as it will help others in a similar situation

Yes, including around the time you did, more than once, and it is obvious what 'Dart Charge' means, IMHO. The signs are pretty big.

We opened a Dart Charge account in advance as we needed to visit a relative there a few times.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Go to pepipoo, and post a link to your PCNs etc there.
Youre almost certainly banged to rights and the route will be that you never got the PCNs
Is your V5C up to date and IN YOUR POSSESSION?

If you contact them on Twitter (it only takes a moment to join) they will often drop the charge back to the original crossing fee.
  • Contact who? Can it be done on Facebook? (Don't have Twitter)

I have no idea where my V5C is? Is it that crappy little slip?
