Hair Extensions . . refund or not??

Hey everyone,

I seem to have a lot of ranting to do lately, sorry!

So, I got hair extensions (nano rings) for the first time on 4th June (I think); my friend's girlfriend did them & I paid her £250 in total (all hair & fitting included)

There are some things I wasn't happy with, and I did mention one of those things to her & she gave a 'reason', but it's only now i've had someone else do them I know her reason wasn't true

* I asked before having them in, if they contain Nickel & told her i've got a Nickel allergy; she said 'no'. She'd got a few in & mentioned she uses metal not silicone nano rings, and I said, again, something like 'they definitely don't have any Nickel in though do they because i'm allergic to it . . I did ask' & she replied that she didn't know & would check (what, when some are in?) but in the end she said it'd be ok as they wouldn't touch my skin anyway

I have no idea if they did contain it, but it's my only allergy & the itching and redness was so bad I removed them

* I said to her that I wanted to be able to have my hair loose, or in a high ponytail, but didn't want to see the rings. I told her i'd gone for the nano rings as they're so much smaller & should be hidden with thin/fine hair, and didn't mind seeing one or two, but didn't want it obvious I have them in

When I looked I could see the whole row of nano rings & it was very obvious . . when I said to her she said i'd not got enough hair to cover them up. The top rings were right by the parting at the back, so clearly there was no hair to cover it, but that wasn't because there was literally no hair, it was because she placed them too high

I just had them put back in & they have covered up fine & there's plenty of hair, hence me now feeling !!!!ed off that she lied or did them wrong

* (A minor annoyance) . . she didn't bring the colour match wheel to the consultation, saying it wasn't in her car or she'd forgotten it. She took a photo & matched it from that (& matched spot on), but it was brown with blonde highlights I wanted. If 3 shades of brown & 2 of blonde would've worked, *I* wanted to choose the shades. As it happened she didn't get blonde at all, more a chocolate brown & golden brown, but I didn't see it until she did it so then it was too late. I have wanted blonde in my hair for ages, now am stuck with this, much as it's 'ok'

* Her aftercare said a silk/satin pillowcase is needed, I spent around £17 on one, thinking if i'm paying £250 for hair i'd better look after it, and then she said it wasn't needed just a good idea

* I lost LOADS, some were me being heavy handed & catching them with the brush, some would've been normal loss but I lost way over 30 within the 2 weeks I had them in (this time with someone else none have come out yet). I don't know if this could be due to my allergy, maybe if I was bothering them by scratching a lot or if the hair was trying to shed them

* They were too thick, she didn't even put them all in as enough were in. She asked if I wanted 100/150/200 strands/grams, & obviously I didn't know, so she went with 150, but there was nothing to explain just how thick that is, tho she probably can't keep 3 samples so not sure how that could be shown

All of the money was asked for in advance, not just for the hair. I feel like she didn't listen to what I asked for (blonde highlights, ability to wear it down without the rings being too visible) & that she shouldn't have put anything in my hair without knowing if it contained Nickel (she said no before I went in & only changed that once a few were in) & also that her info sheet should be given to people & state what is optional, so we don't end up spending on expensive things we don't need

If anyone knows if she should (legally or morally) pay some of the fitting fee back, pls let me know. I haven't any proof she did them, other than her boyfriend knows she did but he is of course siding with her)

Thanks & rant over

Did you have them done in a salon or was it in your house/her house? I would say that if it's a bad job and done in a salon you probably have some comeback, but not so much if it was done in your house or her house as a favour. Seems a good price though - extensions are around £600 - £800 in salons near me!

I nearly fainted when I read that the OP had spent £250 on having her hair done. I am now speechless. Makes my college salon monthly trim at £10 even more of a bargain:)

Extensions are expensive, but it depends on why you want them doing. I had mine done as I'd lost my hair with cancer treatment and it wasn't growing fast enough. I felt that having had no money going on myself for 12 months previously it was a special treat and would only need it doing a couple of times over a year or so. Mine cost £280 and the girl who does them is brilliant.

We met at a neutral location (private personal training studio) that was closed at the time, just us there

I have no idea what they should cost, but it was 150g/1g per strand Russian Remy 18" hair

I just had my nail technician put them back in, as she's just started up self employed from home & will be doing them, I was the third she'd ever done so she was going to put them in for free but I insisted on paying something so she just charged £20 . . way better job, all are covered when hair is loose & not lost any yet

No idea what make mine are, but they're real hair, 18 inches, but they are glued in rather than the rings as I'm allergic to nickel too. They last (on me) around 3 months or so. I'm getting near my 3rd lot and then I think my own hair will be nearly long enough to go without.

As a matter of interest - the first quote I had was for £1200!! I pointed out that for that I'd want another head, preferably one 20 years younger than the present one!

    omg @ £1200
I think you're closer to London? but wow!
I can't wait to no longer need extensions but I reckon it'll take another 2-3 years to get almost to bra strap length (just past shoulder length now)

Have heard Nano rings can pull out natural hair but hopefully they don't

Yep, I asked before & then as soon as she mentioned (while fitting them) that she uses metal not silicone. I'm wondering if that's why around 30 came out fast, as I was scratching so much. I've had them back in for a week today & this time it's copper/silicone and not one has come out
