A flight from Tenerife to Heathrow

My wife and I have got a weeks holiday in Tenerife (flying from Manchester and part of a Thomson package holiday)) coming up, however, we may have to fly back to Heathrow mid-holiday to attend a family funeral near Heathrow and then fly back to Tenerife to complete the holiday.

I'm staggered by the flight prices (return) fron Tenerife to Heathrow - even Easyjet are quoting around £700 each.

Is there a way to get reasonably priced flights?

Iberia via Madrid if you want to fly to Heathrow - you don't mention dates but probably less than you have seen

As you haven't said what dates the flights are likely to be it's difficult to be precise in suggesting alternatives, but I would look at the cost of flying to an airport other than Heathrow and adding on either car hire or a taxi to get to the funeral location.

Price up "Tenerife to UK" for alternatives on Skyscanner. Similarly "Madrid to UK".

If you have any BA Avios they may come into play.

The funeral is being arranged for next week, and is anticipated to be eith thurs 1st sept or friday 2nd - sorry but we're awaiting confirmation.
I guessed that Gatwick with a shuttle/taxi would be an option, but if it's a morning funeral, we'd have to fly the day before and stay in a hotel.

Sounds like a lot of expense and travelling time just for an extra few days during a weeks break. I don't think I'd bother going back TBH if the funeral is near the end of your week anyway.

Otherwise if you throw out a few dates, some may be able to help. Skyscanner is good too provided you know the dates you require.

I think you may have misinterpreted me.

You say you and your wife are going away for a week. During that week you will have to attend your Sister in law's funeral.

If the funeral is towards the end of the week of your holiday, why would you go back to Tenerife for a day or two. I hope you understand me!

I wasn't suggesting that you don't attend the funeral, just that you stay in UK when you go to funeral and don't bother going back to Tenerife.

But I can see how my post could have been misinterpreted apologies.

Probably because Easyjet don't fly to Heathrow, so you're being sold two flights as an unofficial connection.

For only one way, BA are offering £89 each from Tenerife to Heathrow, via Madrid (part operated by Iberia Express). This is next Wednesday. I'm seeing return fares about twice that.

Check your travel insurance. It may be wiser to reschedule the trip to a time when you can enjoy a full week away.

I've checked the travel insurance, which covers us for death of a sister, providing it isn't related to a pre-existing medical condition. My sister-in-law died from cancer (abdominal), but she had stomach cancer 18 years ago, which was successfully treated.

On that basis, I'm wary that the insurers will say that her death was caused by a pre-existing condition

There will be more choice and hopefully better fares if you price up your return into LGW rather than LHR, or depending where the funeral is even LTN/STN.
