Starzplay taking money from account

Someone has asked me about a direct debit from Starzplay that is coming out of her bank account monthly. She never signed up for, or used it and it's based in Dubai. She has tried cancelling in her direct debits section of the Halifax bank but can't do that as it's from her card. She has tried contacting starzplay but gets no response.
Basicly what are her rights as again she never instigated this and has been losing money for some time. Have the bank an obligation to stop this and refund her ?

So she has never had a trial with them that she never cancelled?

Or anyone in the household could have signed up to?0 -

As above they wouldn't have both her card details and billing address unless someone signed up either for a subscription or as a trial. Unless of course her details have been stolen but the chances are it would be more than just one thing signed up for. Scammers try to get as much as they can as quickly as they can and before the victim notices.0

I'd assume that they wanted a chargeable streaming service but didn't want to pay for it so used someone else's details. Although in this case I doubt a scammer was involved.0 -
If she truly hasn't signed up then she should be letting her bank know that someone has her details as they need to cancel the card. Or it's possible they signed up accidentally when buying something else? (Too many auto-ticked boxes these days, which aren't necessarily illegal on foreign websites).
As a warning (since it's not explicitly mentioned here), it doesn't sound like a direct debit but a "Continuous payment authority", which can still be cancelled but those aren't under the direct debit guarantee (so reclaiming prior payments is likely to be difficult).Peter
Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.0 -

The bank has called this for her and trying to get the payments back.0
