I'm so sorry and I hope your puppy pulls through!
My mum bought a puppy home from battersea in 1984 and the poor puppy had parvo, i'm not sure if the home was vaccinating at the time or it just was too late for Bert0 -
Hi
So sorry to hear about your poor pup, we bought a border collie two years back, and within 24hrs of having her she was at deaths door, she was really ill and unable to move, rushed her to the vets who immediatley kept her in telling us they suspected parvo virus and her chances weren t all that good, luckily after a week at the vets she pulled through, we were told that she didn t actually have parvo but a disease called campy lobactor (sorry if spelt wrong) which has the same sort of symptoms and also contagious to humans. Anyway she is now a very healthy and happy dog.
I hope it all works for you and pup because i remember how distressed we all were when we went through it.
Good luck and let us all know the outcome.

The '80's were a particularly bad time for dogs contracting parvovirus. Even fully vaccinated dogs were catching it, and dying from it, hence why vets started giving parvo vaccinations every 6mths, rather than annually.
It's a very virile virus and dogs don't even need to have contact with another infected dog to catch it. It can be passed on via their owners who can carry the virus on clothing/footwear, having picked it up from the street/park or anywhere other dogs have access.
This is why it is essential every dog is vaccinated, even if you think your dog will never come into contact with another ... YOU can pass it onto your dog!!!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Hi everyone
I just wanted to thank you all again for the support.
I called the vet today at 9am and she confirmed the tests came back positive for parvo, she cannot in anyway say if lola is going to pull through, she said she's not optimistic but its sometimes the dog that isnt doing too well is the one that surprises us and pulls through.
I called the guy running the kennels leased by the local council and he was very mean to me on the phone, I got of the phone from him at 12.30 today and when I came home from work I had a card through my door from the actual dog warden timed at 1.30, I think they're panicked about me taking this further. The vet has confirmed that lola came to me sick and that I have been more than quick in trying to care for it.
I know the council cant be held responsible but I do feel very aggrieved at receiving a very ill puppy, when I was so vocal about my concerns about my daughter and also being a single parent and money. Although not being a major factor but I hadnt budgeted for this, and it's going to put me in very dire straits for the next few months to pay it off. I could afford the inoculations, the general day to day caring of the animal but I had hoped over the weekend to get insurance, and had even quotes on friday and saturday saved.
I just feel that the council should have an obligation to the animals in the vacinity and also to honest and caring people who want to home an unloved dog, and protect us from this heartbreaking situation. My daughter and I are just devastated, we got so attached in a very short time and now my daughters 4th birthday present may die before her birthday (15th Oct)
I've everyone praying and thinking about Lola the pup and I really hope shes a fighter and pulls through, but I will keep you up to date and I cant thank you's all enough for you lovely messages

Cathy Wishing you the best for lola.
My parents Old English had it in the 80's, it is an awful illness, but she did pull through.
Thank you to for bringing it to everyones attention, i'm going to check that our two have had their injections for it.0 -
Thanks for the update, and I am really sorry it wasn't better news, but she is still hanging in there, and she is at the vets, which is the best place for her, and she did have a vax, all of which go in her favour. I'll keep everything crossed that she keeps fighting!
In the meantime, you need to disinfect your house as soon as you are able. Your vet ought to have offered help with this, and should recommend a suitable disinfectant, they can also get you sprays that you can use on furniture without ruining it.
I know this is probably the last thing you want to do right not, but try to think of it this way, if she pulls through you need to be ready to bring her home!
I would very much like to know which pound it is, but I completely understand if you would prefer not to say. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
Hi im so sorry the tests came back positive for parvo, the poor little thing. You did the right thing contacting them to tell them that the pup you got from them has parvo as the liklihood is that all the pups will be infected.
My heart goes out to you and your daughter, i still remember like yesterday when our little one was so ill, we prayed every night and cried on and off till she came home.
Please keep us informed i ll be thinking of you both and the pup.

That's an utter disgrace. He should be much more concerned than he appears to be and I worry about all the other poor pups under his 'care' who may well succumb to the same illness.
I'm really sorry that the tests were positive, we're picking up our puppy next week and I know we would all be devastated if anything like this were to happen. I really do feel for you and your daughter and I wish Lola strength to help her pull through.0 -
