What is the cheapest way to buy Apple shares

What is the cheapest way to buy Apple shares in the uk? Am I right in thinking you can't buy American shares in a ISA.

Thanks,

I wasn't giving you a straight answer to the question asked.

The cheapest way to own Apple directly is to open an account with a broker like HL who give you access to international stock exchanges. Complete a W-8BEN form and then purchase to your heart's content.

You'll incur transactional FX charges and a 15% withholding tax on the dividends. I understand they can be held in a SIPP which negates the dividend withholding tax entirely.

I have Apple shares "naked" in a US broker and a U.K. one (TD) plus some in my SIPP with HL.

If I was starting from scratch I'd probably buy the "naked" ones in an ISA with TD as I believe you can sell and buy US shares in $ without having to convert to Sterling each time. At least you can in their trading account so I assume it would be the same in an ISA though I haven't checked.
  • Thanks.

If you don't already have an existing broker and existing funds /shareholdings then you may also want to consider whether buying the shares of one company is a good idea.

Cost of one would probably be too expensive.
