I use the DIY tills at tesco and there is no limit to how much you can have off with coupons. Last week I got a £160 shop for just £75 with all my coupons and I think I probably bought two of the items on the coupons

Did you use the printed vouchers or just the magazine etc ones?

for ladypinkof66, if you are interested, try the link below. Asda are a bit funny about printed coupons, but Tesco are fine. Some say you can use only 10% of your shops worth, others let you use loads as long as there is not 2 or more for the same product

Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

  • My local asda seems to make up the rules as they go along with coupons!!!!

One person says "you can only use 10% of total bill" ....

another says "you can only use 3 of the same type of coupon" ....

another says "you can use upto 30% of shopping bill" ......

........... everyday is a different response from different people!!!

NOW i use the self scanning tills. Ive worked out from trial and error that they will only take a maximum of 8 coupons before it calls for a SA to attend.

Ive found the best way is to do little shops often and split your basket in 2. For instance, scan through say £6 worth of shopping (leaving more items in your basket). Then scan through 8 coupons, roughly £3 worth, pay for it, then repeat the process with the other items in the basket.

This way you can save a fortune in a month!! sometimes i pay less than a £1 for £4 worth of shopping (depends on value of coupons)...so 75% saving. Its useful if you can take a partner too and you have a basket each and try to keep less than £10 worth in each basket. This way you can get £20 worth of shopping, use 4 x 8 sets of coupons, and only spend about £7-£8.

At the minute im getting tins of roses/quality street for friends/family for xmas as they are only £5 a tin ........... BUT using £3+ of coupons for each tin so costing less than £2! Also looks like youve spent alot of money .... (little do they know!!)

I agree with the above. The only problem is getting enough coupons. That is why this site is so invaluable and important we let eachother know about any coupons we find.

There are people on here who are just taking the mick.
It's supposed to be about moneysaving yes, but this is just sheer greed, and manipulating the system to this extent just pushes up the prices for everyone else who plays fair.

I'm all for getting a bit off your shopping, but your post goes too far in my opinion.
And Stebiz, your money saving signature is nothing to be proud of either - saved £6500 because your credit card debts were written off because you couldn't be made to pay them - don't you subscribe to the opinion that you should pay for things you've bought then? I wouldn't be shouting from the rooftops about that 'saving' myself.

On the whole on the coupon threads we always encourage people to be careful in their coupon use in one particular way which does prevent the stores clamping down. If you use coupons which are store specific- ie a somerfield's mag coupon- in a rival's store they cannot claim the money back for that coupon and the store will eventually get sticky about coupon usage. Otherwise they don't lose out. Mostly they don't care- they are doing it as a good will gesture and the minority of people who take full advantage will always be a small number. Most people just can't be bothered to clip coupons and are embarrassed to hand them over in case they get turned down.:o

You could argue that the manufacturers lose out as they fund the coupon schemes presumably out of their marketing budget, but that is a slightly different argument. In takng the coupon Tesco are breaking the rules onthe back of it and so are complicit in it. I don't think that the people you accuse of 'taking the mick' are invisible to Tesco, but they have chosen not to act as they believe the policy encourages people to shop with them and they gain from it overall. Which they do, hugely.
So I wouldn't stress about it too much- the stores have punished us in the past by refusing to accept any coupons and if we abide by their rules and don't use other store coupons I think we are doing very little harm.

I won't get into an argument with you. There are many people who will agree with what I have done. Others who disagree. That it your right under a democracy.

I am surprised that you have brought this up without knowing the full facts. The two companies in question did not have a signed consumer credit agreement or one that stood up in court due to certain legalities. I have covered law at degree level and decided to see this through. The court upheld my views.

Yes I did use the money. Yes morally maybe I should have paid this back. However in my business life I too have found people take advantages of mistakes I have done. These companies should have known better. I have a family of 5 (including myself and lovely wife) and I would rather treat them to nice things, and holidays rather than pay a bank back. Okay I got the agreements made un-enforceable due to a loophole in the law. A little bit like people taking advantage of tax loopholes. I won't apologise for it. In fact I'd encourage it. If anybody else would like any more information on how I managed to make 2 credit cards unenforceable please feel free to PM me. Many have.

Like I say I won't argue with you, you are entitled to your view and many will agree with you.

As for the coupons. Well maybe this is morally wrong too. Why should a manafacturer of say margarine pay 50p off my morning paper, by my use of a coupon. Morally this is not right. I agree. But I'll still do it. Morally it is not right that some City workers can make £15m and see poor kids in Africa starving. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

I'll get off my soapbox now. If anybody would like any help don't forget to PM me.

    Kindest Regards

I agree with everything stebiz says. The credit cards earn enough money in interest and late charges one after another, if you miss a payment by a day or any other reason. I used my regulary used mine for many years and then when I lost my job, all they wanted to do is keep charging me interest even when I explained the minimum payment was all I could afford.
Regarding coupons, I cannot understand why somebody is against the use. I have started shopping online, but I cannot use coupons, so when I am near my local Tesco I go in with the vouchers to buy little extras (that's the idea).
I always spend 3 or more times that I wanted because of offers etc, which they SNEAKILY PLAN to catch peoples eyes, so because of the vouchers they get a lot more of my money than they would.
IT IS CALLED QUID PRO QUO I THINK

Stebiz, I also agree with your view on the credit card issue and couponing.

And if using some coupons to get a £4 bill down to under a pound is 'taking the mick' (according to bye bye band G) then you aint seeen nothing yet! Many of us use loads more coupons than that......but I still feel we are indeed 'playing fair'.

As long as the coupons are good redeemable non-store specific ones then Tesco is actually making extra money on the products us couponers buy. If I buy £5 worth of shopping I might use 10 or more coupons towards the cost - and Tesco can claim the money back plus a small handling fee, on each and every coupon. Tesco make more from honest* couponers like us than from anyone paying by another method.

*as opposed to those dishonest shoppers who persist in using out of date or Somerfield/Asda/Sainsburys magazine (unredeemable) coupons. If anyone uses these in Tesco, bin them now b4 I come round and slap you with my full coupon-wallet!! :rotfl:

Neither my local asda and my local Tesco will take any vouchers if you've not bought the item and the asda refuses point balnk to take any internet coupons or home printed ones at all, even if you've actually bought the item
