I went to B&Q to request delivery of a fence panel that was 6ft wide by 3ft high and cost £19. I expected to pay maybe a fiver but was told the cost of delivery was £20 which was more than the thing cost!
So I then logged on to Wicks website and ordered a fence panel, same size and costing £14 only to find that their delivery charge was £30, more than twice the cost of the fence panel!
I am a pensioner and no way can I afford to pay that. If anyone has any advice of anywhere in the Leeds area that will sell and deliver said item for a reasonable price, I would be very grateful. :A

TBH I've found this when I was looking at fences and other items too large to fit into my car. It boils down to how badly you want it, or whether you can transport it yourself by alternative means. Our local B&Q allows you to hire a van to carry stuff from B&Q but the cost is £25 starting IIRC.
Even my local garden and fence centre wanted £20 for delivery irrespective of whether it was one panel or six.
Have you had a look on ebay for anything nearby?0 -
Would it fit in an estate car? Might find a mini cab willing to help if you pay a bit more and provide some sheets to protect their car...0

I'd try and ring a local fencing man, explain the situation and see if he'd be good enough to sell one and drop it off to you on his way past for the retail price of the panel and a bottle of wine/few beers.0 -
Put "fencing Leeds" into Google.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Right I've had a look on eBay. Buildersemporiumltd have overlap 6x3ft for £28 with "free delivery". Obviously delivery is being absorbed into the cost of the item but it looks to be the cheapest I can find.0

My builders' merchant will send something like that out for <£10 and I'm 12 miles away.
Of course, it will go in with someone else's load, but they're small enough to care and organise efficient, cost-sharing deliveries.
The sheds aren't always the best/cheapest places to go.0
