People who drive slow...

Why do these same people accelerate like they are in a drag race as soon as an overtaking section is in view, only to slow to a crawl again as soon as the opportunity to pass is gone?0

Its the prat5 that overtake me whilst doing just under 30 on my motorbike, shoot past with a glare then have to brake 500 yards up the road in traffic for me to filter past them again lol.
Have no problem with them doing that on a nice stretch of road.0 -
I had the misfortune to be stuck behind a slow driver last month. Really terrible and slow driver in front (40mph on wide open A road with NSL)
Sadly due to the density of oncoming traffic an overtake wasn't safe
That was bad enough but it was a lot worse when we got to a narrower B road with the NSL.
Most drivers taking thier time do around 20mph at corners and 45mph give or take in the straights
Confident drivers will do 30mph at corners and 60mph on straights
But this guy was doing 30mph on the straights and about 15mph on corners. Even though it has enough room for 2 trucks to pass each other, they would slow down to about 5mph when a truck was coming towards them
This went on for well over 1 hour of the journey where countless cars ended up queued behind us. Plenty of opportunities for the driver to pull over and let faster traffic pass but must be blissfully unaware of the delays they were causing
Again overtaking wasn't possible due to a combination of limited visibility, oncoming traffic and another car being between me and the one holding everyone up
Driving carefully is fine, but this was someone with no awareness of their surroundings and no confidence on the road. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Drove behind one such through a 60 limit this morning. 65 plate Vauxhall Astra, for 5 miles never exceeded 35 mph. Our roads are exclusively single carriageway, with lots of bends around farmland, preventing safe overtakes as at that time there are lots of commuters and shoppers in both directions. What really annoyed me, was that he drove into town in a 30 limit at 35! I had my Cruise set at 30 as soon as I entered the limit, he pulled away from me in town, then settled into a bend at about 20.
I'm 72 but I do not hang about and could never be accused of delaying traffic. However, one day last year an idiot in a clapped out Golf tailgated me for miles, flashing his lights. I had the Cruise set at just below the 60 limit. Eventually he overtook, engine screaming, blue-smoking. I had been expecting a young driver and mentally apologised to young drivers, when I saw he was grey haired and appeared about 60.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Some slow & nervous drivers have never had an accident all their driving years, but have seen plenty in their rear view mirrors.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I would say thats about right I do the first on unfamiliar roads and the second on roads I know well but according to the OPs criteria both or those examples are slow! so where does it end one person normal is anothers slow.0 -
And you don't think that's a perfectly good reason to drive with due care.Drove behind one such through a 60 limit this morning. 65 plate Vauxhall Astra, for 5 miles never exceeded 35 mph. With good visibility and space to overtake safely.iammumtoone wrote: »What type of road?
The UK has plenty of national speed limit single track/very narrow winding roads, when on an unfamiliar one I always drive slow according to your definition, to do so otherwise would be dangerous to me.
There is also one of these roads local to me which I know very well therefore enabling me to drive at a speed acceptable to your definition. I often meet a motorist in front of me driving 'slow' on this road - do I get annoyed no as I try to understand they are probably not local and experiencing the difficulties I face on this type of road that is unfamiliar to me.0 -
Overtook a 40mph in a 60 limit. They then put their high beams on permanently...must have liked the look of my derrière.
Same thing again but different snail, after I overtook they increased their speed and tailgated for the next 2 miles.
Then there's the cars that have to brake whenever they pass a car coming the other way, or brake all the way around every corner they come to.
Keeps me entertained on the daily commute!0
