I just need to decide on the best way forward.

You will be getting a trend from replies, but the fitting could be spot on. If your floor has settled. or a joist failed, or wet penetration/leaks caused problems then you need to investigate everything. A starting point is to get the manufacturers fitting instructions, then study these, and establish exactly what has been done. Only then can you consider having going back to the manufacturer.

Stone trays don't crack unless they are dropped or have something dropped on them . Had a fault been caused by delivery the crack would have shown on fitting

This tray wasn't dropped and has never had anything heavier than a bar of soap dropped on it, and it's cracked.

So it's badly fitted then . This will not be covered by a manufacture warranty

Seems from your posts that the manufacturers warranty is a completely pointless waste of effort, as they only fail if abused or badly fitted which wouldn't be covered anyway?
Maybe my best option is just to claim on insurance then.

Maybe it is, does that cover the defective fitting?

As you've already said, you've only ever dropped a bar of soap on it. So it's not accidental damage.

I've no idea, but the insurance company would have to prove it was defective fitting that caused the problem in order to avoid paying out, at which point I would have proof to claim from the fitter.

You are being unfair to those who have posted, and also to yourself. You have been given the correct response, which is to investigate what has happened, then take an informed decision. If you wish to take a decision based on feedback, without bothering to do the common sense thing, then I wish you well.

I will reiterate seeking the manufacturers instructions. I will also state two fundamentals - you believe the fitters were competent, but are you qualified to judge this, and have you inspected the work that they did? Then take an ethical mindset and ask why should an insurance company pay out for someones faulty workmanship - be this the fitters or the manufacturer - and someones inability to do a proper investigation?

    Thank you Furts,
I am seeking the fitting instructions and I am investigating exactly how the fitting was done. I have stated several times that I don't know who is to blame, and it's obvious that I need to determine that, but I'd like to destroy my bathroom only when I have some sort of plan to move forward afterwards. In fact several plans depending on what we find when we do excavate the floor.

I do hope that I'm not being too unfair to you or to myself by posting this reply.
Please try to keep it friendly and helpful, and try not to make assumptions about me, I am sorry if anything I've said offended you in some way.
