Clydesdale 0% balance transfer and 0% purchases

Hi,
Last November I applied for a 0% balance transfer credit card with Clydesdale. Brilliant because they also provided 0% purchases for 26 months.
I had 12 months to pay off £5k balance transfer and I've been overpaying loads for the last 4 months. Every time I make a purchase I pay an amount off my credit card. I thought these payments would be paying off my balance transfer first (as this ends in November) but apparently not. I've paid over £4K in payments and I still owe £3500 on my balance transfer. Phoned them today to be told that my payments are split 50/50 between balance transfer and purchases. After explaining that still doesn't add up because £5k minus half of £4734 still doesn't leave £3500. Then I was told that the majority of my payments go towards the purchases because they would attract the most interest (it's 0% for 26 months) when I asked how is worked out she couldn't answer... just majority of the payments. So now if I want to avoid any interest I have to pay the full balance of £6k off including all purchases (even though they are 0% until Jan 2019)
I am normally very savvy when it comes to 0% credit cards and now I feel like I've been misled by their advertising. Is there anything I can do??
Feeling pretty upset as I can't magic £6k out of nowhere before November and then I'm going to be charged interest on the remaining balance of over £3k
Help :(

The payment allocation is in your terms, so no, you can't over ride those.

    Consider a BT.
  • It would be nice if their customer service could explain what those terms are - what's a BT?

    Balance Transfer.
  • Yeah I would... but now I don't live in the UK no one wants to give me another credit card. I live less than 40 miles from the UK yet it's like I moved to the moon

You'll have to pay it off the old fashioned way in that case.

Do you have a relative in the UK who could apply for a 0% BT card and transfer your balance to them?

Most cc providers allow it except Tesco.
  • I have a plan B - I already have a Barclaycard which every 2 months they send me a balance transfer offer. If I had known that Clydesdale don't pay off the first transaction then I would have paid over £4K off my Barclaycard. It just means I have only 3 months to find the money to pay off over £3k to be able to balance transfer it. I can't do anything until they start charging me interest or that balance transfer will transfer 0% purchases and leave me with paying interest on what's left.
Just worries me that if I wasn't in a position to scrape together £3k so quickly then I would be in big trouble.
Plan C is my parents... which I would rather not go down that route but I know it's there in an emergency. It's a shame not all credit card companies are as transparent as Barclaycard.
