Not cheap, but if you have loads, as I did, then maybe worth it, then Gumtree or Ebay it. Which is what I did, and made 60% of the purchase price back.

It's up to the individual what they get of course, and eBaying the equipment after is a good idea if you no longer have a use for it.
But it seems to me that you're paying a lot more for a screen, and very little extra real resolution over the Maplins one. Quality may be better though. I don't know.0 -
My father-in-law gave me a commercially available "Black Widow" slide scanning adapter.
Basically, it is the same shape as the paper diffuser in the link above but has two mirrors at 45 degrees to direct the light back down through the slide.
I've never used it as I have always slide scanners built into my flatbed scanners. I might give it a try sometime.0 -
One thing i love about my RX620 printer. Also scans slides and negatives.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

If you're only looking to digitize a few dozen slides (and then never do anymore in future) I would consider paying a professional to do it rather than investing in 'domestic' kit as I suspect the cost will work out cheaper and the quality be better. A quick Google search shows there are postal services that start at about 30p per slide. Some of the supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco offer slide scanning in their bigger branches, or maybe try an independent camera shop. It's also worth looking in your local classified paper, as I can see a couple of people advertise slide scanning and film conversion services local to me.0

I finally got round to trying a home made diffuser to scan slides

And can confirm that it doesn't work
even with the scanner set to its brightest settings
It just sees a black slide !!
So - I'm looking at black friday sales for a slide scanner .....0 -
I you want to do it properly then it won't be cheap
I use a reflecta proscan 10T which is a dedicated film and slide scanner for 35mm film/slide size.
No cheap - but then 5000+dpi slide/film scanners never are and nor are they fast.
I use it with vuescan software.
you need to lean how to use Vuescan - do not expect it to switch it on load it up and get brilliant results on the default settings.
you need to choose settings depending on what sort of film emulsion (make/type)you are scanning.
If you have only a dozen or so then the services of a professional slide scanning business seems the best option.0 -

I did a few a while back using an old tablet with a white screen and placed it over the negative on the scanner bed. Worked fine.0
