Leaking soffit

Hello
I moved house into a 1908 mid terrace property last October. Since then I have noticed a patch of rot or a hole in a soffit that's causing a decent leak when it rains. ( think filling a pint glass every five seconds in very heavy rain)
Is this something that should be urgently repaired? I have been looking at the costs
it's not a thrilling prospect!!
Thanks for your advice !

Soffits aren't supposed to hold or carry water, so yes, it's something you should look at urgently. When I say urgently, I definitely don't mean watch it for another 10 months. A stitch in time saves nine, especially when it comes to running water. You can end up with dampness upstairs where water runs down walls and down where it splashes up with force.
You've got an issue with the guttering, it sounds like. It also sounds like it's been going on for some time if it's rotted a soffit.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

^^ Agree
Guttering blockage, but the problem is it might not be your guttering that's actually blocked and getting neighbour to sort theirs out is a nightmare, especially if the negative effects are not being felt by them.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you both , the point about neighbors guttering is really useful and I'll look at getting someone to come inspect the guttering before considering the removal and replacement of soffits0
