Empty the boot for a MOT

Took a Renault megane estate for a MOT. The tester refused to do the MOT until I emptied the boot, it was not full, just a few tool boxes.
I asked why & he said to check for crash damage. I did take the items out & stood outside with them for a hour.
Is this normal... never been asked to empty a boot before.

It's probably a wise move anyway, in case anything goes missing. The garage may be wanting to cover itself against accusations that it took or damaged something.0

Never had complaints about my boot. Usually a bag of car supplies in there, screenwash etc.
Was the toolbox very heavy ?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I always make sure my boot is empty when i take mines for the MOT. Some garges are more fussy than others.
When i used to assist with MOT's years ago we just worked around any stuff in the boot unless it was crammed or there was severe hygiene then we'd ask them to bring it back. All your base are belong to us.0 -
I make sure the car is as clean and uncluttered as possible when I take it for the MOT.
I also make sure the glovebox contains spare bulbs and locking wheelnut socket.0 -

A few years ago an MOT tester in North Wales was unable to check the condition of my spare tyre as there was so much 'stuff' in the boot.
Admittedly is was absolutely jam packed full of useless tat that I didn't actually need but I was using the boot as additional storage space at the time!0 -

No need for them to be checking the spare tyre as it's not part of the MOTAll your base are belong to us.0 -
