    From someone who is a serial PCP'er and changes their cars constantly.... For the love of God, buy it!

    I've spent an absolutely fortune in 12 years of motoring on 7 different new cars, and whilst I like cars, I could have put the money to better use.

    The only exceptions to this rule:

    - As mentioned, if the Guaranteed Future Value is significantly more than what the car is worth (unlikely);
    - The mileage is very high and as such you are likely to incur significant maintenance costs (by high, I mean >80,000);
    - You've had trouble with the car which could signal further faults/reoccurrences.

    I agree apart from the mileage bit. Depending on the car it may need a cambelt or other expensive scheduled maintenance at a set age or mileage but this will vary. Other than this modern cars if serviced properly can go to high miles with few issues. Whilst moving parts such as bearings and bushes do wear they are cheap compared to a PCP deal or depreciation on a newer car.

    ...and if you get free servicing & mot for the life of the car, you should be confident of 1. the current condition and 2. it will be looked after and last longer going forward...

    However, I would never have got in the situation in the first place...£300 max to buy a car, run it till it dies, rinse & repeat - saves you an absolute fortune in the long run.....

    Reported. This approach offends me.

    I tend to buy a car for the highest monthly payments I can afford, regardless of whether it's higher than my mortgage.

    (I think this may be where I'm going wrong).
