Tesco Current Account Requirements

When did the rules for direct debits change?
I have had one current account for a long time and receive interest despite no DD.
recently applied for a second account and noticed that 3 DD are required and stipulates NOT to Tesco savings.
Have I just been lucky with my old account?

Older accounts have different terms. Only new accounts need the DDs and monthly deposit.

I think a lot of people were breaking the spirit of the rules.

If the rule didn't exist, how can you break the spirit of it?

They paused applications a few months ago as demand exceeeded their expectations, they then changed their t&c's on opening new accounts.
