The quickest way to regain connection, is to switch WiFi off and on again, I found.
Is your husband using the tablet some distance from the router? Only the more expensive tablets have WiFi signal reception that is a s good as a smartphone. Try it: when using the tablet and receiving a signal from the router, try a phone in the same location. In tablet, go to:
Settings --> WiFi --> tap your router name --> tap Connected --> check signal strength. Then do the same with the tablet in the same location. I think you will find the tablet has a lower strength.
You can use a smartphone as a "WiFi Tethering Hotspot".
Go through the above Settings toWiFi, but scroll down to "More". Tap More --> Set up WiFi hotspot, then change "Portable WiFi hotspot" above that, by tapping it to "On".I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Have a good hoke amongst the wireless settings to see if there are any power saving options - turn those off.0
