MSE News: MSE's new Bills Tracker reveals the REAL cost of inflation on bills

  • It seems a little previous to celebrate such a figure. For many years as a public servant I haven't even had half of this amount in pay rises, so niggling over 0.5% is completely moot. I am struggling and as a professional in supposed B social class I am embarrassed to be paid so little after much ongoing training and 15 years of experience. (My profession is full time child protection social worker). I feel for all the families I deal with for whom a 2.6% increase in income would be like winning the lottery - and I live the experience of near poverty with them

Only 0.8% on internet + phone?

They're in the habit of sticking a quid on one or both at least once a year and unless the "average" person is paying over £100 a month for both it's going to be far higher than 0.8%

I know what my inflation rate is and it is not 5.1% by some way.

Money saving is always going to wreak havoc with your personal inflation rate. I managed to get broadband and line rental free for a year, unless I can repeat that (and sure I'm going to try) then it's going to make next years figures look terrible. Having to buy a TV license for iPlayer has also not been good for me.

Statistically we are anomalies or this site wouldn't need to exist. It's not really aimed at the hardcore MSE's. I'm more disappointed that the ONS didn't produce it's own tool as this one only includes categories of products you will switch with MSE and it's partners...
