How wide can i open chimney

Our chimney in the lounge is 1.28m wide, weve seen an iset fireplace we'd like ot get fitted and its 75cm wide (plus a front plate that sits on the front of the chimeny breast, is there a way of determining if it will fit?

    Unless I'm missing something, it'll fit with 53cm to spare? It's not the hardest maths question I've been given.

    I wasnt sure about how thick the brickwork is either side of the breast? A 1.24m fireplace would fit on the front of a 1.28m wide chimney, but with 2cm each side, doubt you could cut too far into the chimney itself to house the unit.
  • I've been looking at fireplaces a lot just recently!

    You haven't given much away but am guessing that you either have a blocked up chimney breast or an opening which is currently too small that you want to open up and if so, you don't have much for your lintel to sit on....
