Chipped diamond, H Samuel

Hi.

Sent of my partners engagement ring with H Samuel to be re-plated, they checked it over before sending it and said there was no damage which i have a receipt off.

Went to pick it up today and while in the shop i noticed the main diamond had a chip, they said it would be sent off and replaced as went out with no damage and i just needed to give them the diamond certificate so it would be replaced like for like. They said they would rush it through as we wanted it back in 2 weeks for a wedding.

Got home and had a phone call from them saying they reviewed the photos of when they sent it and there is a slight mark visible on the photo. There now saying it will be 3 weeks before i here anything as they need to check with the workshop and compare photos. Remember no one reported any damage at either end as far as i am aware, only spotted by me while in shop. (so if was damaged by us you would think someone might notice)

Where do i stand? I have already disputed any chance of me paying as i have a receipt showing no damage. Just want to be prepared for when i hear back and i expect nothing less than a load of BS from them.

So looks like no ring for my partner for my sisters wedding which she got it cleaned for.

Thanks

P.S Second time ring has had to go back using them as came back with a weird lump on one of the smaller diamonds last time it was re-plated!!

Maybe because they got away with it the first time.

Diamonds are not easy to damage. What clarity is it? I ask because high street jewelers often sell I3's which can have reduced durability / integrity due to the inclusions. Their only possible defense, which they've already hinted at, is that there was an existing defect which meant that the stone could be damaged by careful handling.

A "chipped" diamond? Must have been kryptonite that did the damage? Or did you not buy her a REAL diamond ring?
