Where would be a good place to sell an old motorbike?

Apologies if this isn't the right place to post but I rarely venture out of the comping section of the forum.

My husband has a 2004 Honda CG125 which has been sitting in the garage for sometime. It currently doesn't start as there is something needed doing with the electrics.

Where would be a good place to try and sell/give it away? I would rather not have to spend money or time on trying to get it working if possible.

Ebay or Gumtree. Ebay will probably get a better price, it will find its own value if auctioned. List it as spares or repairs. They are popular as learner/commuter bikes and also seem popular for customising.
Gumtree is local but items seem to attract pushy and hopeful offers.
  • A CG125 is a very basic machine so the electrics that are concerned with starting are very minimal.
Because of this, it might be worth seeing if you can find someone who will have a look and see if they can fix it. (provided you can find some cheap).

Even though it won't sell for much, a motorbike with a running engine will attract far more interest than a non runner that may have a seized engine.

  • If you're anywhere near the North East then I might know of someone who'd be interested in it.

Not really more East without the North.

The Honda CG125 is a very basic single cylinder four stroke engined bike, and it has both electric and kickstart. Is the battery charged up? The wiring is very simple on these machines, and if you can get a spark, then you should be able to bump start it at least. Don't just give it away, because it could be a good little commuter bike.

Might be worth seeing if there are any bike traders local to you - they might give you a few quid, do it up, sell it on. My brother has a business selling bikes from cheapo's to top range track bikes, and he'll often buy fixer uppers for when he's quiet, or he will sell on behalf of the owner if it is worth it - for commission of course. As others have said gumtree and e-bay are worth a try as one man's junk etc.
